Over the course of Winter 2016, a great deal of work has been undertaken on the Cars & Trailers in order to prepare them for the 2017 season. 2017 will be a celebratory year for the Railway, marking 60 years since the railway was nationalised and taken over by Tynwald, the Manx Government. A number of Cars & Trailers are being repainted into the Green & White colour scheme applied upon Nationalisation in order to mark the event. This post will be updated on a regular basis to show the works being undertaken on the historic vehicles this Winter. Car 6 Car 6 has entered the Paintshop in February 2017 in order to receive a repaint from the current 'Manx Electric Railway' livery into the livery first worn by the Car from 1903 until the late 1940's, when the railway was operated by the 'Manx Electric Railway Company Ltd'. Car 16 Car 16, once a common sight during special events with Trailer 60 in their matching green livery, has been repainted into the traditional Manx Electric Railway Red livery. The opportunity has been taken for the Car to be outshopped in the 'Austerity' livery worn by the Car in the early 1960's exclusively for the Rush Hour event, upon which the Car will be returned to the paintshop to receive Yellow lining and other details. The Car would have worn the 'Austerity' livery during the same time period some Cars wore Nationalisation Green, making this choice of livery especially appropriate. Car 21 Car 21 is one of two Motor Cars to receive the Nationalisation Green livery this winter, alongside Car 32. The Car wore this livery for a period of only two years, from 1958 till 1960, at which point the traditional Manx Electric Railway red livery was reapplied. The Car was one of the first vehicles to enter the Paintshop this Winter, and as of early February 2017, is almost cosmetically complete, pending the application of further detailing. Car 32Car 32 is the second Motor Car this winter to be repainted into the Nationalisation Green livery. This Car wore the livery for the first time between the years of 1957 & 1960, with the Car being repainted into a representation of the scheme again between the years of 1979 & 1985. As of early February 2017, the repaint is almost complete, with the kickerboards that are fitted to the side of the Car being completed late in January 2017. Trailer 46 Trailer 46 is to be repainted into the Manx Electric Railway Company Ltd livery in order to match Car 6. Work has yet to begin on the repaint of Trailer 46, Trailer 60 Trailer 60, alongside Car 16, its usual running partner, has also received a repaint from Green to M.E.R Red. This car will be outshopped in the traditional Yellow lined scheme in order to match Car 16 after the Rush Hour event. Trailers 61 & 62 Trailers 61 & 62 are to make a welcome return to service for the 2017 season. These trailers have not operated in service since 2008, when cracks were found in the axles of the truck wheelsets, precluding their further use. Trailer 61 is expected to return to service in the same livery as currently worn by the trailer. Trailer 62 is to repainted into Nationalisation Green to match Car 32. This work is currently ongoing.
